Under Texas Penal Code Section 37.10, tampering with a governmental record is a crime. Depending upon the circumstances tampering with a governmental record can be either a class “A,” “B,” or “C” misdemeanor, or even a third degree felony, for which the penalty range is two to ten years in the state penitentiary, and up to a $10,000 fine. The statute with respect to tampering with a governmental record is exhaustive, in that it criminalizes a wide array of behavior. If you are alleged to have filed a fraudulent document with a court or other government entity, alter an existing government record, or even offer to sell a form with the intent that it be utilized as a fraudulent governmental record, you can be charged with tampering with a governmental record.
